Security

Password manager security.
Private by design.

Bit Kapteyn encrypts your password vault on your device before data leaves it. AES-256 encryption and zero-knowledge architecture help keep your stored passwords and private notes confidential.

AES-256 encryption

The same standard used by governments and militaries worldwide.

PBKDF2 key derivation

Your password combined with secret is stretched through 650'000 iterations making brute force impossible.

End-to-end encrypted

Secure key exchange that attackers can't intercept — fast and secure on every device.

Understand how your password vault is protected

What does local encryption mean?

Bit Kapteyn encrypts vault data on your device before sending it to the server. This places encryption before storage and transfer in the vault workflow. Your stored passwords and private notes are the information being protected; the website where you use a password remains responsible for its own account security.

What does zero-knowledge mean?

Zero-knowledge architecture is designed so the service cannot read the contents of your encrypted vault. This is different from merely protecting a network connection. Review how a password manager handles encryption, account access, and recovery when deciding whether it meets your needs, and keep your own account credentials private.

What can you do to protect access?

Use a unique account password, keep your device and browser updated, and lock your device when it is unattended. Check the website address before entering credentials and review who has access to shared accounts. Encryption is one part of protecting information; careful account and device use still matters.
